Fascia is connective tissue that connects, wraps and joins muscles together, which also acts as a lubricative proprioceptive organ, provides feedback to the central nervous system. Rather than thinking of the human body as comprised of 600 distinct and individual muscles, it should be thought of as one large muscle with 600 subdivisions held together by fascia. Without fascia giving form and structure to the muscles, like scaffolding to a newly constructed building, the muscles in the human body would not have a solid foundation from which to generate movement. To maintain healthy fascia, I recommend:
- Stretching and training fascial lines, not joints
- Achieving structural balance within the different body structures through strength training
- Decreasing systemic inflammation with nutrition
